This position is located in Ottawa, Ontario. Applicants must reside or willing to relocate within commuting distance to the head office located in Ottawa.We provide exemplary support services to the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, situated in the Canadian Arctic. Our highly skilled workforce provides services that include all elements of facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport and logistical/administrative support to our customer, the Department of National Defence (DND).WE ARE LOOKING FOR A MECHANICAL ENGINEER.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the provision of engineering services including design and technical maintenance support for all building mechanical systems including but not limited to :HVAC, fire, piping, tanks, pressure vessels, diesel generators, heat recovery systems, potable water plant, and sewage in the arctic environment for Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert.
Key Accountabilities
• Develops Task Authorization (TA) project files including Statement for Requirements justification, business case analysis, Engineering Change Requests, Risk and Options Analysis, final designs, and preliminary and final costing estimates.• Conducts commissioning and close-out activities on each project in accordance with project plan.• Prepares complete engineering designs for approved projects and briefs projects at Design Review meetings.• Prepare reports, plans, cost & schedules, safety, and construction documents, perform design calculations, provide support to AutoCAD Technicians, prepare design, specifications, and construction packages, and be part of an interdisciplinary engineering team• Analyze/Review Preventive Maintenance Program and support the Service Delivery Regime and provide Operational Project Delivery Services as needed.• Ensures that TA Projects systems spares are authorized in sufficient quantities and strategically located to minimize the duration of outages.• Provides support to Project Coordinator and Site Manager.• Provide support to third parties (i.e., Defence Construction Canada) as required.• Periodically travel to CFS Alert site to perform engineering investigations, inspections, property surveys and design research and act as project coordinator for specific approved task authorization projects.• Perform other duties assigned by a higher authority, which are unplanned or of a transient nature
Qualifications:• Completion of a degree in Mechanical Engineering• Professional Engineer of any province and eligible for NAPEG P. Eng. Registration• We will apply for the required ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance (must be acceptable for DND), and must pass yearly medical examination for trips to the site.Required Competencies and Skills:• Knowledge and work experience in any of the following fields would be an asset:• Fire Systems• Power Generation Systems (engines, generators)• Piping Systems (oil & gas, water/wastewater)• A thorough knowledge of mechanical distribution systems and a working knowledge of the Canadian Codes and Regulations, Environmental Protection Act, API and CSA Standards, the National Masters Specifications, Canadian Water Quality Standards, HVAC systems and the Building Codes.• Proficient with MS Word and Excel and previous knowledge/use of databases• Ability to balance multiple priorities, work well in a changing environment and possesses a sense of urgency• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written• Excellent work ethic, professionalism and interpersonal skills• Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required• Permanent positions receive medical, dental, disability and life insurance benefits• Permanent positions receive company pension plan payments• Qualified and interested candidates please APPLY NOW.
